chazthoughts.com / the photo blog of chaz cruz

my name is chaz cruz and I am a photographer splitting time between san diego and NYC. my specialties include weddings, fashion and lifestyle portraits. this blog is named after my obsession with "the office" and of a lovable character named creed bratton. he writes about his random musings under a blog titled "creed thoughts," so I thought I'd do the same and name it "chaz thoughts." so please, browse around and don't forget to leave me a comment or two.

Heres a fun wedding at the Hotel Maya to celebrate the big day for Marjoriemay and John. We started off at the hotel for the getting ready, then headed to St. Anthony’s for the ceremony, then with a major break before portrait time, Joe (of Joe+Kathrina weddings) and I decided to partake in a little sangria action. Haha, that set the mood of right! We then went off and partied with May and John all night. A big thanks to the team from Bellz & Whistlez for coordinating such a gorgeous wedding day, enjoy!

I love your work! Your series always do a great job of telling the unique story of each wedding and each couple. My buddy and I are going to be doing our first wedding shoot at the beginning of March, and we are using your blog as inspiration.

A few months ago I went up to Livermore, CA for the wedding of Chi-Na and Jesse. You might remember them from our awesome engagement session we did in San Francisco. Their wedding was located at Murrieta’s Well winery, great photographs along with great wine. But first we had to do a “first look” and since Chi-Na and Jesse were wearing both the traditional Korean hanbok as well as the formal dress and suit, we got two. So enjoy the photographs and always thankful for my great friend Megan Welker for shooting with me.

Back to Los Angeles for another engagement session, this time it was all about the music with April and Joseph. This couple has some amazing music taste along with being cocktail aficionados. We headed off to the Hollywood Bowl to catch some awesome sunrays, then hit up their favorite haunt in Hollywood, The Hotel Cafe where we let them be center stage.

I love when my clients are architects, they can understand my love for equality. So when we started the session at Eric’s apartment, I knew it was a match made in heaven. Especially after seeing his old video game collection, man it brings me back to the good old days! After the apartment, we searched downtown Los Angeles for a view of the skyline and man, did we get lucky.

A few months ago I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico with the awesome Michelle and Armand. They hail from New Jersey and wanted to have a destination wedding in Puerto Rico and I was more than happy to help capture their memories. The sun, the sand and the food are definitely reasons for me to add Puerto Rico to my vacation destinations. We rocked the La Concha Resort and went around Old San Juan for some day after portraits as well. A big thanks to Uyen Vo for 2nd shooting and also check out the feature on Perfect Bound Blog from this wedding. Also, feel free to watch the slideshow of the wedding day at the end of the post.

Did a maternity session with my cousin Geraldine, her boyfriend Chris, his daughter Kayla and the dude in the belly Jordan. Since she’s my cousin, I had to enforce the “no nudity allowed” clause. Special thanks to Wilma of Lovely Jubilee for styling the shoot and Eugenia of Petit Plume for the hair accessories.

Yup, this is him, cute ain’t he?

Oh man, so much fun with Jelynn and AJ in Hawaii, their whole wedding was gorgeous and so well planned from start to finish. It literally felt like 3 weddings in 1 with the dress changes and all the details! It was held at the Oceanfront Oasis and is the estate where Elizabeth Taylor stayed when she was in Honolulu! A huge thanks to Marissa Rodriguez for photographing along with me, it seemed only natural since she’s moving to the islands at the end of the year!

I headed up to San Jose for the wedding of Mary and Eddy, it was a stylish affair at the San Jose Hilton in downtown, which I must say is a pretty swanky spot. I loved their engagement session that we did in San Francisco because of their style, so their wedding definitely didn’t disappoint. A super huge thank you to Megan Welker who drove up to photograph with me, enjoy my favorites from the day.
