chazthoughts.com / the photo blog of chaz cruz

my name is chaz cruz and I am a photographer splitting time between san diego and NYC. my specialties include weddings, fashion and lifestyle portraits. this blog is named after my obsession with "the office" and of a lovable character named creed bratton. he writes about his random musings under a blog titled "creed thoughts," so I thought I'd do the same and name it "chaz thoughts." so please, browse around and don't forget to leave me a comment or two.

Brooklyn in the house, specifically the botanical gardens. Didn’t have to travel too far from home to capture the love of Jenny and Ry at the Palm House. A gorgeous ceremony culminating with a crazy dance party, you know we couldn’t go wrong. Working with an awesome team made it way more fun as well, so a big thanks to Jennifer Bobé for photographing with me and Renzo and Annika from Magic Flute Videos.

When you mix a sweetheart couple with a musical family, you have one of the funnest receptions I’ve ever been to. Laura is a lucky lady to have someone who can serenade her anytime and man, can Jonathan belt it out. Laura, send me that wedding video! Thanks to Chanu of CIK Studios for photographing and taking me around Long Island. We had some fun photographing at the Old Westbury Gardens and Fox Hollow.

Just got back to San Diego for the holidays and of course I have to post up some photos from an engagement session I had a few weeks ago with Jordan and Daniel in New York City. We went around midtown and hit the sights, going to the always photogenic Grand Central Terminal and Central Park. What beats NYC in the fall?

You might remember Melody and Curtis from their Philadelphia engagement session a few posts back, we now come full circle to their wedding day. I had met Melody and Curtis a few weeks after I moved to Brooklyn last year, they didn’t know that I have moved to NY yet so when we setup the consultation, we realized we only lived a few blocks from each other! I call it fate. So come there wedding day I knew it would be amazing, I had an awesome second photographer in Chanu of CIK Studios and Tim and Steve from Velare Imaginarium (whose video you can see at the end of the post). It was such a great day that spanned from Bryant Park & Hotel in Manhattan then heading up to the Bronx to the New York Botanical Garden. Definitely loved this one, you can even check out the feature on Style Me Pretty and the lovely introductory writeup that sums up Melody and Curtis’ wedding perfectly. Enjoy.

And as promised, the video from Velare Imaginarium.

Heres a fun shoot I got to do last week with Julie and Andy! Julie is a fellow photographer out of Seattle and was visiting New York with her husband Andy, which happened to coincide with their one year wedding anniversary. So it was definitely an honor to photograph their anniversary session in Brooklyn, on what was probably one of most gorgeous days you can ask for. DUMBO provided the backdrop for this awesome couple, can’t wait to hang with them in Seattle, enjoy.

Last week, I headed up to Queens for an impromptu shoot with rapper Mike Baker the Bike Maker. I had been wanting to do a series on friends of mine who are in the creative field and to observe them in their element. So I went over to hang at his apartment that he shares with his gal Drea, or to whom I lovingly refer to as Cheddar Bay Chuck, haha. So when we weren’t cracking up at whatever Mike and Chuck were doing, I got some cool shots in as well as portraits with Mike and Drea together because hey, I gotta show off the love.

It’s been almost two months since my last blog post, I made the move to Brooklyn from San Diego the week before Thanksgiving, so life has been insane! 2012 is going to be a crazy year, I’ll be splitting time between New York and Southern California, so make sure to check my schedule to see where I’ll be! With the holidays and flying back and forth between coasts, its been hard for me to get to the blog. but now that I’m settled in, its time showcase the latter half of 2011′s engagements and weddings.

So in honor of my move to New York, heres a gorgeous wedding that I did at Oheka Castle in Long Island with Laura and Tommy. The venue was gorgeous, the couple was classic, it was hard to stop snapping photos. A big thanks to Tim Ryan Smith who second shot for me and to B Floral for the gorgeous flowers.

Awesome photo by Tim, who conquered his fear of heights for the shot!
