my name is chaz cruz and I am a photographer splitting time between san diego and NYC. my specialties include weddings, fashion and lifestyle portraits. this blog is named after my obsession with "the office" and of a lovable character named creed bratton. he writes about his random musings under a blog titled "creed thoughts," so I thought I'd do the same and name it "chaz thoughts." so please, browse around and don't forget to leave me a comment or two.

Last year, Kim and I had the opportunity to photograph the three day wedding ceremony of Nikki and Ren. The first two days were the traditional Cambodian wedding traditions, with the blessings and special ceremonies. While the last day was the party and man, did they party! But we had so much fun with everyone and it was definitely a wedding to remember or not remember, depending on how much Hennessy you drank, haha.

While I was in San Diego a few weeks ago, my friend Tyler told me about this art show that he and his art collective, Yeller Studio and Sezio were putting together in a defunct parachute factory in downtown. I thought it sounded cool as one of my best friends Jordan Josafat was going to be collaborating on designing a wall. The importance of the show didn’t hit me until I did a preview of Jordan’s work, I brought a camera to document some of his work, but upon walking through the Parachute Factory, I knew that I had to come back and photograph the art and the artists.

I was able to photograph a handful of the artists and about half of the finished walls, as I came a few days before the one day opening so many of the walls weren’t complete just yet. I took about 5-10 minutes with each artist and piece, as there was so much to photograph in the given time I had. The opening of the Parachute Factory looked insane, as I believe they hit maximum capacity only about two hours into the opening. If you are on instagram, check out the hashtag #parachutefactory for some great photos of the opening.

I want to thank Saya, Edwin and Yeller Studio who helped me with the walkthrough.

Heres a fun one from last year, the nuptials of Cindy and Mark. We had originally seen them with their epic San Diego Airport engagement, now comes the full day of love. We spent the first half of the day in Old Town San Diego at the Hacienda Inn and the Immaculate Conception Church then headed to Admiral Baker clubhouse for the party. Thank you to Melissa Biador for 2nd shooting for me.

For my first engagement session of 2012, Nikki, Ren and I headed to the University of San Diego’s Geisel Library to start off the day. We had fun with the sun (and cold) but weathered through and then headed to La Jolla Shores to round out the session.

Loved this one with Courtney and Blake, I had one of my favorite engagement sessions with them last year and their wedding didn’t disappoint. The getting ready and the reception was held at the Hyatt Mission Bay in San Diego and their ceremony was held at the Immaculata on the University of San Diego campus. I had just photographed Blake’s sisters wedding the month before, so to see the same families again was definitely a treat. Thanks to the always awesome Maria Maltseva and Kim Marcelo for helping me with the wedding.

My engagement session with Cindy and Mark was a dope one, they travel a lot together, so they wanted to theme out their session with a place near and dear to their hearts, the airport. We got to go onto the tarmac of San Diego International Airport and watching the planes takeoff and land that close was definitely an experience. I want to thank the staff of SAN for being so accommodating to us, they were just as excited about the shoot as we were!

Oh man, one of my favorite couples of the year to go along with one of my favorite weddings. You might remember Leigh and Steve from their engagement session, well now I bring you their awesome wedding. It was all located in downtown San Diego, starting off at the Hotel Solamar for their getting ready shots and first look. We then headed to East Village in downtown to the Ultimate Skybox for the wedding. A big thanks to Asha Maura of Digs Studio for flying over and shooting with me.

Steve wrote his vows on this giant heart, which was a nice suprise for Leigh.

My assistant Kim always rocks the long exposures.

A few weeks ago, the Zamora’s came down from the Bay area to soak in the SoCal shine, but the day before their shoot, they brought the rain from NorCal. However when it cleared the day of their session, they brought the epic clouds that I wish would show up everytime I venture out with my camera. We met up in Coronado for the family portraits and amazingness ensued, enjoy.
