/ the photo blog of chaz cruz

my name is chaz cruz and I am a photographer splitting time between san diego and NYC. my specialties include weddings, fashion and lifestyle portraits. this blog is named after my obsession with "the office" and of a lovable character named creed bratton. he writes about his random musings under a blog titled "creed thoughts," so I thought I'd do the same and name it "chaz thoughts." so please, browse around and don't forget to leave me a comment or two.

Brooklyn in the house, specifically the botanical gardens. Didn’t have to travel too far from home to capture the love of Jenny and Ry at the Palm House. A gorgeous ceremony culminating with a crazy dance party, you know we couldn’t go wrong. Working with an awesome team made it way more fun as well, so a big thanks to Jennifer Bobé for photographing with me and Renzo and Annika from Magic Flute Videos.

Last year, Kim and I had the opportunity to photograph the three day wedding ceremony of Nikki and Ren. The first two days were the traditional Cambodian wedding traditions, with the blessings and special ceremonies. While the last day was the party and man, did they party! But we had so much fun with everyone and it was definitely a wedding to remember or not remember, depending on how much Hennessy you drank, haha.

When you mix a sweetheart couple with a musical family, you have one of the funnest receptions I’ve ever been to. Laura is a lucky lady to have someone who can serenade her anytime and man, can Jonathan belt it out. Laura, send me that wedding video! Thanks to Chanu of CIK Studios for photographing and taking me around Long Island. We had some fun photographing at the Old Westbury Gardens and Fox Hollow.

Heres a fun one from last year, the nuptials of Cindy and Mark. We had originally seen them with their epic San Diego Airport engagement, now comes the full day of love. We spent the first half of the day in Old Town San Diego at the Hacienda Inn and the Immaculate Conception Church then headed to Admiral Baker clubhouse for the party. Thank you to Melissa Biador for 2nd shooting for me. san diego wedding photography (12) san diego wedding photography (13)

You might remember Melody and Curtis from their Philadelphia engagement session a few posts back, we now come full circle to their wedding day. I had met Melody and Curtis a few weeks after I moved to Brooklyn last year, they didn’t know that I have moved to NY yet so when we setup the consultation, we realized we only lived a few blocks from each other! I call it fate. So come there wedding day I knew it would be amazing, I had an awesome second photographer in Chanu of CIK Studios and Tim and Steve from Velare Imaginarium (whose video you can see at the end of the post). It was such a great day that spanned from Bryant Park & Hotel in Manhattan then heading up to the Bronx to the New York Botanical Garden. Definitely loved this one, you can even check out the feature on Style Me Pretty and the lovely introductory writeup that sums up Melody and Curtis’ wedding perfectly. Enjoy.

And as promised, the video from Velare Imaginarium.

Alright, heres another fun one from Los Angeles. Last time we saw Theresa and Eric it was for their downtown engagement session, now for their wedding they kept it nice and green. The day was an amazing one, getting ready at the London Hotel in West Hollywood then heading over to Santa Monica for the ceremony at St. Paul the Apostle. We made a little stop at the Gamble House for some portraits and finally ended at Pandora on Green for the reception. A big thanks to the Little Branch for the flowers, Jordan Event Studio and Timeless Celebrations for the coordination and Shannon Sturgis for the assist.

Update: This wedding was recently featured on Style Me Pretty California!

A fun one a few months back with one of my favorite couples, April and Joseph. You might remember them from their music themed engagement, now they’re back for the music themed wedding. We started off at the Embassy Suites in Glendale for their first look, then headed over to Brand Park for a few more portraits. St. Bernard’s church in Los Angeles housed their ceremony and the LA River Center and Gardens their reception. Thanks to Mary Frances of Floataway Studios for shooting with me.
